Scholarships

American Legion Alabama Boys State makes millions of dollars in scholarship money available to graduates of our program. The following scholarships are awarded to all Boys Staters based on their attendance. When applying for scholarships at theses schools, make sure you confirm that you attended Boys State in 2023!


Troy University provides a $1,000 non-renewable scholarship ($500 per semester) for one year. All students who attend American Legion Alabama Boys State are eligible to receive this scholarship from Troy University.

In addition, Troy offers ten Trojan Leadership Scholarships at Boys State,  valued at $4,000 and renewable over four (4) years.  Troy will also award one Chancellor’s Scholarship, valued at $10,000 renewable over four (4) years. These eleven additional scholarships are awarded during Boys State each year. To be considered, please apply through the ALBS Internal Scholarship Application.


The University of Alabama provides a $1,000 non-renewable scholarship ($500 per semester) for one year. All students who attend American Legion Alabama Boys State are eligible to receive this scholarship from the University.

UA offers additional scholarships at Boys State, including four scholarships valued at $3,000 and renewable over four (4) years, named in memory of former Boys State directors and staff members Cliff Harper, Charles Hayes, Louis McCray, and Coach Jack Cook.  UA also offers one full tuition scholarship, renewable over four (4) years,  in honor of current director, Judge Pete Johnson. These five additional  scholarships are awarded during Boys State each year. To be considered, please apply through the ALBS Internal Scholarship Application.


Auburn University offers four scholarships at Boys State,  including: one Auburn Freshman Scholarship, valued at $11,000 and renewable over four (4) years to the Boys State Governor; one Auburn Leadership Scholarship, valued at $4,000 and renewable over four year (4 year) to the Lieutenant Governor; one Auburn Leadership Scholarship, valued at $4,000 and renewable over four year (4 year) to the Attorney General; and the Jim Jeffrey Memorial Scholarship valued at $4,000 and renewable over four (4) years.  Coach Jim Jeffrey was a beloved teacher and coach, and volunteered on the Boys State staff for 30+ years. He was an Auburn graduate and member of the 1957 National Championship football team. To be considered, please apply through the ALBS Internal Scholarship Application.

The University of West Alabama provides a $2,500 renewable scholarship for four years to all students who attend American Legion Alabama Boys State, provided they meet the minimum requirement of a 19 ACT or 990 SAT. The total value of the scholarship is $10,000 over eight (8) semesters.

In addition, UWA awards 5 scholarships in honor of Coach Ted Copland. The  Ted Copland Memorial Scholarships is $3,500 scholarship, renewable for four (4) years, for a total value of $14,000 over eight (8) semesters. Coach Copland was a beloved teacher and coach. He was a UWA alumnus who spent 30+ years on the Alabama Boys State Staff. The Ted Copland Memorial Scholarships are awarded during Boys State each year. The University of Montevallo believes in the Boys State mission of training Alabama’s youth in ideals of democracy through leadership opportunities. Because of the leadership abilities you have exhibited, the University of Montevallo is pleased to offer a $2,500 annual tuition scholarship, renewable for a maximum of eight (8) semesters if a minimum of 2.5 GPA is maintained, to all students who attend American LegionAlabama Boys State .


Marion Military Institute provides a $3,000 renewable scholarship for two years to all students who attend American Legion Alabama Boys State.

The University of South Alabama provides a $1,000 non-renewable scholarship ($500 per semester) for one year to all students who attend American Legion Alabama Boys State.

Jacksonville State Gamecocks - Sports Illustrated

Jacksonville State University provides a $1,000 non-renewable scholarship ($500 per semester) for one year to all students who attend American Legion Alabama Boys State.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The University of North Alabama provides a $1,000 scholarship ($500 per semester) renewable for four years to all students who attend American Legion Alabama Boys State.

Hamden-Sydney College provides a $20,000 renewable scholarship for four years. All students who attend American Legion Boys State programs are eligible to receive this scholarship from HSC. Hamden-Sydney is located in Hampden Sydney, VA.

Mississippi State University awards a scholarship valued at $2,000 for one year to the delegate named as governor to their state OR the state delegate to Boys Nation.

The University of Mississippi provides a $1,000 scholarship ($500 per semester) renewable for four years to all students who attend American Legion Alabama Boys State.
