Judge Pete Johnson
Judge Pete Johnson has been the director of Alabama Boys State since 1984. He is a lawyer and retired judge, and a graduate of the University of Alabama and Cumberland School of Law. This is his 61st Boys State.
MEET THE ASSISTANT DIRECTORS
Jason M. Jones
Jason M. Jones currently serves as a Boys State Assistant Director. He is an Attorney after serving 16 years as a Civil Servant within the United States Department of Defense. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Alabama A&M University, a Masters of Science from Texas A&M University-Texarkana, and Juris Doctorate from Birmingham School of Law. He has served 25 years on the Boys State staff.
Judge Joel Laird (Ret.)
Chief of Staff
Judge Joel Laird is a lawyer and retired circuit court judge in Anniston, a Boys Stater, a graduate of the University of Alabama and Cumberland Law School. He has served for 40 years on Boys State staff.
Col. Mark Valentine (Ret.)
Col. Mark Valentine is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, Georgetown University, and the University of Virginia. Formerly the Commander of Operations Group at Andrews Air Force Base, he worked 6-years at Microsoft leading the National Security Team and recently joined Scale AI as the Head of Federal (leading all activities with the US Federal Gov’t).
Coach Alan Dunkling is a retired administrator and teacher from the Cullman County Board of Education. He is currently the system wide athletic director and Safety Director. He is a graduate of the University of Montevallo and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. This is his 29th Boys State.
Sadaris Williams works in the student involvement office at Troy University. He is a graduate of Troy University and is currently pursuing a doctorate in higher education at the University of Alabama. This is his 10th Boys State.

Dean of Counselors
Yancy Mitchell is the Acquisition Workforce Manager at the US Army Space and Missile Defense Command at Redstone Arsenal. He is a graduate of the University of North Alabama, and this is his 36th Boys State.

Brad Green is an attorney in Birmingham and Blount County. He is a graduate of Birmingham Southern and the University of Alabama School of Law. This is his 22nd Boys State.
Communications & Scholarship
Cline Thompson is the Business Operations Manager for the New Orleans Pelicans’ new NBA G-League team in Birmingham and a captain in US Army JAG Corps. He attended the University of Alabama and Cumberland School of Law. This is his 18th Boys State.
Landon Nichols works as the manager of advocacy and Civic Health, Medical Advocacy and Outreach. He is a graduate of the University of Alabama. This is his 10th Boys State.
Dominic Ingram is an assistant principal and athletic director at Echols Middle School in the Tuscaloosa County School System. He is a graduate of The University of Alabama and The University of West Alabama. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in education administration at The University of Southern Mississippi. This is his 12th Boys State.
Jay Owens is the Chief Information Officer and Chief Information Security Officer of Central Alabama Wellness. He attended the University of Montevallo and is a graduate of ITT Technical Institute. This is his 24th Boys State.
Robert Harris III
Robert Harris is the Senior Vice President, Director of Diversity and Inclusion and Community Lending at Bancorp South Bank. A graduate of the University of Alabama, this is his 20th Boys State.
Prince Cleveland works as a specialist at EBSCO Industries in Birmingham. He attended the University of Alabama, and this is his 19th Boys State.
Derek Brown works as management consultant with Ken Chapman and Associates. A graduate of Samford University, this is his 16th Boys State.
Seth Johnson is a Fixed Income Analyst and Trader at Regions Bank. He is a graduate of Rhodes College and The University of Alabama. This is his 22nd Boys State.
